Dungeon Run #2 Spire of the Watcher - Rules & Support Thread

Spire of the Watcher Speedrun Ruleset

This challenge is designed to be casual-friendly. The goal is to complete the Spire of the Watcher dungeon on Eternity difficulty as quickly as possible while avoiding any exploits or skips.

General Rules

  • Follow Intended Paths: All fireteam members must stay within the playable area. No out-of-bounds routes or bypassing intended mechanics.

  • No Skipping Mechanics or Encounters: All nodes must be connected. All enemies and bosses must be fought in their designed phases, with no shortcutting encounters.

  • Loadouts and Subclasses are Open: You may use any subclass, weapons, and armour, but their use must not create unintended skips or despawns.

  • Player Persistence: All fireteam members must remain in the activity for the whole duration of the run. Leaving and rejoining, swapping classes or characters, or intentionally disconnecting is not allowed. The run must be completed with the same players from start to finish.

  • No Fireteam Warping: Players may not leave and rejoin to skip travel, spawn checkpoints, or manipulate enemy triggers.

Movement and Traversal

  • The use of in-map movement (e.g., skating, rocket jumping, grappling) is allowed, provided the following conditions are met:

    • You stay within the intended play space (i.e., remain in-bounds).

    • You do not clip through any map geometry (walls, rocks, objects, etc.).

    • You do not skip core, required mechanics necessary for encounter progression.

Permitted Techniques

  • Using Gjallarhorn, Starfire Protocol, Divinity, etc or other everyday high-end gear use. We have no restrictions on your gear of choice.

  • Full use of subclasses, including Blink, Icarus Dash, and Grapple (with limits): As long as no encounter is bypassed.

  • Strategic split-ups during node connection: If no area is skipped, this is just good coordination.

  • Preloading mods/gear before start: As long as you don’t swap to enable a movement exploit mid-run.

  • Jump tricks to go faster within legal rooms: Parkour that stays within bounds and doesn’t bypass mechanics.

Banned Techniques

  • Spawn Manipulation of any kind. (e.g., having members of your fireteam die at certain stages to respawn them while one player skips some aspects of the Dungeon.
  • Any use of “clipping” period. Anything that breaks the intended mechanics of the Dungeon. This is covered by both the "Follow intended Paths, and “No Skipping Mechanics” rules.

If you have any questions about the rules or would like clarification on specific techniques or scenarios before starting your run, feel free to reach out to us. We’re happy to provide guidance to ensure everything is transparent and fair for all participants.

Questions and answers

Who is entitled to receive the emblem reward? As confirmed on Bungies post HERE “all participants who sign up will receive the Nine-Crowned emblem” - We will contact users once the event has ended.

When will users be contacted about Prizes? No Exact date has been formalised at this time, however the aim would be to contact users shortly after the event is concluded. We will make sure to provide timescales publicly once available.

Do I need to record my run? Yes. After the event ends, the top 10 players in each category will receive an email requesting a full video recording (VOD) of their best run. This footage is required for final verification and will be reviewed. Failure to provide a VOD may lead to disqualification from leaderboard standings and prizes.

Where can users find more details on the prizing structure? Head to section 8 of the terms of service page Terms Of Service - Dungeon event

Is the emblem that will be given the same for both dungeons? When will it be released?

Only one emblem is earnable from the event

Is using eager edge to kill a enemy thats a bit further away allowed or is the perk in general banned?

Is titan flying allowed, and at what point is something considered jumping and swinging vs titan flying? Is using eager edge at all allowed or just no skating/swapping weapons for keeping momentum? If it is allowed can you use it to push teammate or is that banned? Is being able to push people with shoulder charge allowed as that has been a mechanic since d1?

I am mainly asking since while more things are clarified this time around, claiming something to be unintended while bungie gives us multiple ways to increase speed or make transition faster such as grapples or ballistic slam into tcrash is very confusing on what is fully allowed or not.

I understand not allowing out of bounds, some of which are extremely difficult for this run, but I think disallowing wellskating, shatterskating, or even MOVEMENT WITH A SWORD shows a complete disregard and misunderstanding of the community that wants and will participate in events like this. using eager edge for movement is commonplace even among the absolute most casual players, and is actively encouraged by bungie, as shown by the recent announcement that the enemy tracking is being nerfed for the sole purpose of making eager edge movement easier. Wellskating and shatterskating while a bit more difficult (but very consistent with just a few hours of practice) are extremely common in most circles of the game. I appreciate these events being run, but I urge you to please talk to the community that wants to participate in these events before making decisions on rules that actively make players less excited to compete.

doing a speedrun tourney but ban every possible speedrun strat is actually crazy

serious question, have you played destiny 2 before?

you’ve effectively banned the use of all swords including non-eager ones
“light attack sword skating not intended by game design” it literally is if you had paid attention to anything bungie devs have said in the past like 7 years
all players must contribute to node connections, meaning each person has to arbitrarily tap at least one node per connection?
“skipping any element of the dungeon” is entirely too broad and suggests we have to go on a sight seeing tour before doing anything
eager edge to gain “unintended momentum” when bungie devs themselves literally shatter skate on their dev streams
no “ledge-hopping” is as broad as you can get and effectively allows you to disqualify any run you want on a whim since there’s ledges fucking everywhere
“players cannot leave and rejoin to manipulate enemy triggers” even if you don’t leave and rejoin, your positioning in this game influences a large portion of enemy spawns, meaning NO run is valid
players must follow the intended path but there’s no video from you or bungie showcasing the intended path meaning you could dq any run out want under this guise
“no skips connecting circuits via oob ledge movement” literally what does this even mean? i can’t jump a little off the map, hit a node, and return to the map?
you think starfire is everyday high end gear use in the year of our lord 2025
“as long as no encounter is bypassed” you can’t skip encounters in this game with 1-2 exceptions that I believe have been patched

there’s more but this is just my first observation ramblings. You have no idea what you’re doing. Please provide an example run meeting your own criteria because I genuinely don’t think you can.

so do we need do a video with all of these rules to qualify for the emblem? also can we PLEASE get this added to the actual leaderboard page it took almost an act of god to find this lists of rules.

speedrun competition without speedrunning techs crazy…

you guys make a “speedrun” competition, where you can’t set rules on the first weekend, then post this AI made rule set, where you have no idea about the core game, skips and have any idea how to describe them, then go on about making this event for CASUAL PLAYERS, what casual player call themselfs a SPEEDRUNNER

Edit: Thanks for the updated ruleset, it’s much better, but still not too clear about what skating techs are actually allowed, watching a speedrun of these dungeons and then listing rules based on what you didnt like, or thought was too much, would’ve been easier, but I guess Bungie did the same thing with saying “no skips”

wow toxic kepas

Thanks for the changes on the ruleset, this is much more reasonable and internally consistent!

Thank you for responding to feedback so quickly and listening to the community, these rules are much more reasonable and strike a good balance between being beginner friendly and still leaving room for more skilled players to employ faster techniques.

No problem, we’re always listening

We’ve made some changes based on feedback!
